Does drinking alcohol severly increase the prevelance and severity of Eczema?
People suffering with eczema tend to have very dry skin. It's a cycle really. Dry skin will exacerbate flaking and itchy skin . That's why moisture, both internal and external, is so important in relieving eczema outbreaks. Since alcohol has a drying effect, imbibing alcohol can lead to the drying of the skin - hence making an eczema outbreak more likely or making a present outbreak more difficult to manage. Also, eczema sufferers need to continually flush out their systems to allow the internal allergen to be removed from the body. The liver plays a major role in detoxification. Excessive alcohol use can negatively impact the liver's ability to detox the body. As a result, the body's ability to flush allergens that may be eczema triggers can be compromised.
