Turned on my Compaq laptop and got a message that windows would not boot?

It said to load windows recovery disc but \i don't have one. I am not at my home and I don't know what to do Please Help! As far as I remember there were no recovery discs with my laptop but had to make a restore point on my laptop. aptop has vista installed. I am not a youngster by the way just average middle aged woman who is not at all techi ;-(
