Opinion question on a ferret!!!??? Please help?

I want to get a ferret that I'm adopting. I might be going to college hours away abd living in residence but I can always live in a rented basement or apartment that allows pets. I'll be far away from home so he can help me feel not so lonely. My mom thinks I would be narrowing my search to much for an apartment. I might not get in and can go to closer college next yeAr. I will have a barely p in English but if I get accepted I would move there temporarily. Should I get the ferret? Best opinion gets best answer
